About Hammersmith Bridge:

Hammersmith Bridge, an iconic suspension bridge in London, spans the River Thames, connecting Hammersmith on the north bank to Barnes in the south. Designed by civil engineer Sir Joseph Bazalgette, the bridge was opened in 1887, replacing an earlier 1827 structure. Renowned for its striking Victorian Gothic design, Hammersmith Bridge features intricate ironwork and elegant towers, making it a picturesque landmark.

The bridge has experienced numerous closures and repairs due to structural issues, with significant concerns arising in recent years. In 2019, it was closed to vehicular traffic after cracks were discovered in its pedestals. This has had a considerable impact on local traffic and commuting patterns, leading to ongoing debates and plans for restoration and preservation.

Despite these challenges, Hammersmith Bridge remains a beloved symbol of the area's history and architectural heritage. Efforts to restore the bridge aim to ensure its safety and preserve its legacy for future generations.
